ECG, Blood Pressure, Spirometry

ECG

A resting ECG (Electrocardiogram) records the electrical activity of the heart and produces a reading, this tool gives the physician useful insight of a persons cardiovascular state. The physician can interpret this reading which may highlight any problems or abnormalities of how the heart is functioning which may lead to a diagnosis of heart disease. It is also useful for seeing how well the patient is responding to treatment. This test takes a few minutes and is completely painless.

BLOOD PRESSURE (BP)

Blood pressure is the force of blood exerted on the inside walls of blood vessels; the maximum pressure (systolic) and the lowest pressure (diastolic) made by the beating of the heart. The systolic pressure is the maximum pressure in an artery at the moment when the heart is beating and pumping blood through the body. The diastolic pressure is the minimum pressure in the arteries between beats when the heart relaxes to fill with blood. Measuring the BP is a quick simple and painless procedure that gives a lot of useful information about the heart and the condition of the blood vessels.

SPIROMETRY

This special electronic gauge called a Spirometer is a device that measures the actual volume of air breathed out in the first second of exhalation and gives a reading known as FVC (forced vital capacity). This is a very useful tool for giving a more precise view of what is going on in your lungs and airways. It is also helpful in the initial evaluation of people experiencing breathlessness; who may have one of a variety of respiratory or cardiac disorders such as Asthmatics, people suffering with restricted airway disease, smokers or those who have Emphysema.
