Cervical Smears / Pregnancy Test

Cervical smears are available at the Mayfair Practice and it is recommended once every 2 years as a precautionary measure.  However, depending on your family history it maybe necessary to have a smear at more regular intervals.  The smear is performed by one of our team of Doctors, however a female member of staff is always present to ensure your comfort.  Alternatively if you wish the procedure to be performed by a female doctor this could be arranged with prior notice.

Pregnancy testing can be performed with either a urine or blood sample.  This should be conducted ideally two weeks after missing a period, however a positive or negative reading can usually be detected days after a missed period.  The urine test gives an immediate result, where as the blood sample is sent to the laboratory so the patient is contacted when the results are returned which is usually within 24 hours.
